Don’t forget to donate your gently used soccer gear!
Clean out those closets and sports bins! Girl Scout Troop #33204 is collecting soccer gear such as uniforms, cleats, shin guards and balls for the US Soccer Foundation’s Passback program through the end of the month. Collection boxes can be found in the front offices of Neil Cummins, Hall, and the Cove Schools and the Corte Madera Recreation Center. Please bring in last year’s uniforms and any gently used gear by the end of October!
Featured Teams of the Week:
U12 Girls White
The U12 Girls White team is looking to get back into the win column for league play this weekend in Ukiah (Yes…you read that correctly!). They’re building confidence on the ball each week thanks to trainers Edwin and Martine and parent-coach James Volpentest. The definitive highlight of the season thus far was the Palo Alto Tall Trees tournament in late September. The girls were undefeated in pool play with three draws, two of which required them to overcome halftime deficits to earn the points. Although they didn’t make the finals round, the girls had a great time with each other both on and off the pitch. The team has focused on showing up to each game with desire to compete and a commitment to aggressive play and it’s really beginning to show in their results.
U12 Girls Red
Trained by Abe and the seasoned parent-coaching duo of Steve Taylor and Eric Saibel, the U12 Girls Red team or the “Big Red” are rocking and rolling through another great season. Fueled by a pregame pump-up playlist, this team regularly unleashes its characteristic high energy, full throttle soccer on its opponents. They’ve had some great wins, including a couple “come-from-behind classics”, and took second place in the Palo Alto Tall Trees tournament in September. As they head to the next round of State Cup play and look ahead to the Boo Fest in Belmont, the Big Red are ready to kick their level of play into high gear. The girls are fully committed to one other and are a pleasure to watch. Come see for yourself tomorrow morning at Town Park as they take on Santa Rosa Atletico at 9:00am!
