Weekend Preview – October 27/28

Corte Madera FC Families:

Our final tournament weekend is upon us!  Corte Madera FC teams head to Sacramento, Walnut Creek, Davis, and Brentwood to compete in various tournaments. Although it can feel like a big sacrifice to give up an entire weekend to watch your child play soccer, remember that these are some of the most fun and memorable parts of the season for the players. Our kids will quickly forget the scores of their games or whether they won or lost, but they will remember the silly costumes they wore, the post-game ice-cream cones, and the time they spent at the hotel pool. Parents! Embrace your time on the sidelines, dig into that Subway lunch, and enjoy your time in Sacramento or Walnut Creek. Years from now, these weekends are what you and your child will remember about soccer and being a part of Corte Madera FC. Best of luck to all of our teams.

Featured Teams of the Week:

U12 Boys Red

Trained by Coach Edwin and the seasoned parent coach duo, Jud Holt and Warren Jones, with management duties led by Philip Pillsbury, the U12 Boys Red 2007 team have really found their stride. The boys are playing an elevated level of soccer that is evident in their build-from-the-back style of play. Each player has played every position on the field this season as part of the coaches’ player focused development strategy. This has led to an exciting style of play enjoyed by the parents on the sidelines. Highlights thus far include a Santa Cruz Classic Championship, undefeated league play, and a convincing 5-0 State Cup win last weekend in Walnut Creek. The boys head to Livermore this weekend to compete against, what are sure to be tougher opponents, in a Gold and Elite Ghosts and Ghouls tournament.

U12 Boys White

The U12 Boys White Team heads to Walnut Creek’s Creek Cup Tournament this weekend in true mid-season form. After some mixed early results, the boys have found their rhythm over the last couple weekends and are beginning to produce some gorgeous soccer. Quality wins over tough teams from Napa, North Marin, and American Canyon have proven their mettle, while a strong draw against local rival, Marin FC (playing in the next division up), may have been their most satisfying outcome. Trainer Andrew Shuter, in his first year with Corte Madera FC, brings a wealth of game knowledge and coaching expertise to the team and the boys have responded well to his energy and enthusiasm.  “Coach Andrew knows his s[occer] and the boys have really taken to him.  We couldn’t be more thrilled with their progress,” says parent-coach, Oliver Weir.  Together with Coach Christian Ferran, Coach Weir is looking forward to leading a blessing of purple dabbing unicorns into battle this weekend and wishes all the Corte Madera squads good luck with their upcoming games.
